So where do we go from here?
Guinness lost the public inquiry, so no Safeways and no 27 million pounds for Guinness. The site is trashed with a razor wire fence, security guards, no jetty and no life (almost). Of course, left alone the site would regenerate itself 'climax' (woodland I believe in this area?), eventually.. But urban environments are all about buildings and spaces, and the best urban environments are those in which the 'built' and the 'natural' combine in harmony and accord. What next for the site? Maybe the people who actually live in the area should have a say in the development! Not just a poll of the local populace, ticking boxes to choose between boxes, but, real choice. Those choices have to be identified properly by an investigation of all the options, not just the 27 million pound ones. Corporations have to be made to behave responsibly in their activities. Their actions have the most profound effect on people and the world, their responsible behaviour is not an option, it is compulsory. Below are some contact numbers of people who are taking the initiative started by Pure Genius!! forward. If you hear of anything that should be added to this list please contact the office at office@tlio.demon.co.uk |
